Used vacuum cleaner bags are not recyclable because the dust and dirt sucked into them cannot be recycled. For this reason, please dispose of the full bag in the residual waste.
The big picture
Vacuum cleaner bags are practical helpers to get dust and dirt out of the house easily and without stirring up further dust. The vacuumed dust and dirt in the household contains many particles that are not compostable and can only be disposed of via incineration.
Therefore, vacuum cleaner bags belong in the residual waste and cannot be recycled. For this reason, as the manufacturer of Swirl® vacuum cleaner bags, we are committed to the production side and focus on responsible and resource-saving production. In our eyes, it makes no sense to waste new material – for example, brand-new plastic – for the production of a disposable product.
Since 2014, we have been continuously working to replace new material with recycled alternatives in the production of our vacuum cleaner bags. Our new generation of EcoPor® vacuum cleaner bags already saves 500 tons of CO² per year compared to the previous generation – without compromising on performance.
Our vision is to do without petroleum-based plastics by 2035 – we are focusing on future-proof plastics of the new generation that are made from sustainable and/or renewable raw materials. In this way, we are making a contribution to conserving our resources.
Resource-saving production
We are committed to the production side of the cycle and have been working on resource-saving solutions for production since 2014.
100% recycled paper and recycled plastic
The cellulose layers as well as the cardboard retaining plates of our EcoPor® vacuum cleaner bags, EcoPor® ROB bags for robot vacuum cleaners and EcoPor® anti-odor vacuum cleaner bags are made of 100% recycled paper.
The plastic retaining plates are already made of 100% recycled material – we are continuing to increase the proportion in the bag.
Plastics of the future
Our vision is to do without petroleum-based plastics by 2035 – and thus make a contribution to the conservation of our resources!
At about 5 t per elephant, this corresponds to the weight of 100 elephants or the amount that 50,000 trees absorb if one tree absorbs about 10 kg of CO² or 2,000 flights from Frankfurt to Barcelona, if we assume 0.25 t CO² per person and flight.
At Swirl®, we believe that resource conservation and high product quality can go hand in hand. That's why compromising on the quality of our vacuum cleaner bags is not an option.
Today, we still have to rely on a mix of new and remanufactured materials. We use as much recycled material as possible in production and as little new material as necessary to convince our customers not only of the sustainability in the production of our products, but also of their performance and reliability.
Our initiative doesn't end with vacuum cleaner bags. We also rely on recycled resources when it comes to waste disposal, without compromising on quality. For example, our bin liners are already made with 100% recycled plastic*, but our commitment goes even further. Even today, the retaining plate of our EcoPor® vacuum cleaner bags are made of 100% recycled plastic or 100% recycled paper. The cellulose layers of the non-woven material are also made of 100% recycled paper.
We already use as much recycled material as possible for our EcoPor® vacuum cleaner bags . For example, the plastic retaining plates are made of 100% recycled plastic and the cardboard retaining plates and the cellulose layers of the non-woven material are made of 100% recycled paper.

As a disposal product, we are involved on the production side of the cycle. Since 2014, we have been working on responsible, resource-saving production by using as many recycled raw materials as possible and covering our electricity needs with green electricity.
With our EcoPor® vacuum cleaner bags, you don't have to do without the proven Swirl® quality. These are just as powerful as their predecessors and ensure filtration of 99.99% of house dust and allergenic particulate matter. With 45-65% recycled material*, Swirl® EcoPor® vacuum cleaner bags deliver 100% performance.
* Proportion depends on bag type
With our EcoPor® vacuum cleaner bags , we can already save 500 tons of CO2 per year. This saving is equivalent to the amount of CO2 that 50,000 trees can absorb, for example, assuming that one tree absorbs about 10 kg of CO2.
