1972-1988
In 1972, the first paper vacuum cleaner bags were introduced under the Melitta® brand. From 1978 until the founding of the Swirl® brand, the vacuum cleaner bags were sold under the sub-brand "Jumbo". The type finder developed by us already helped to find the right bag back then.
1988
The Swirl® brand with the slogan "If you swirl,® it's easier." is founded. Within the Melitta Group's brand portfolio, the brand stands for practical cleanliness. The product range includes vacuum cleaner bags and garbage bags.
1989
The Swirl® garbage bags with carrying handle are launched on the market. Thanks to the carrying handles, they can be easily closed and conveniently transported to the garbage can.
1991
Swirl® is the first vacuum cleaner bag supplier to use unbleached pulp to manufacture its paper vacuum cleaner bags – while maintaining the same high product quality.
2001 / 2008
In 2001, Swirl® MicroPor® launches vacuum cleaner bags made of specially developed volume fleece. The new material offers many advantages, such as higher filter performance and longer-lasting suction power. In 2008, the bags are equipped with Airspace technology, which ensures maximum suction power and filtration up to the full bag thanks to the second filter chamber.
2003
Swirl® is developing the digital "dust filter bag search". This makes finding the right bag child's play. Consumers first select the brand and then the model of their vacuum cleaner using the search mask. As a result, the matching Swirl® vacuum cleaner bag is displayed.
2004
Swirl® launches garbage bags with an elastic drawstring - also known as fixation tape. The elastic drawstring fixes the bag to the edge of the bucket - so there is an end to the annoying slipping of the garbage bag into the trash can.
2009
Swirl® launches the eco-garbage bag with drawstring. This consists of 80% production residues from its own film production and externally purchased film regeneration. The bags are tear-resistant and liquid-tight, so that you don't have to sacrifice the usual quality.
2012 / 2015
In 2012, Swirl® launches MicroPor® Plus vacuum cleaner bags. The Swirl® MicroPor® Plus anti-allergen filter not only traps normal house dust, but also allergenic fine dust in the form of pollen, mold spores, mite droppings and bacteria in the bag. As of 2015, Swirl® vacuum cleaner bags are already made of 40% recycled material and renewable raw materials.
2018
Swirl® focuses on the properties of "tear-resistant & leak-proof" in its garbage bags. This repositioning is accompanied by the TV commercial "Ravishingly tear-resistant – impressively drip-proof", which is still running years later.
2020
Swirl® is taking the next step to improve the sustainability of its vacuum cleaner bags. The "Pro Nature" content of recycled material and renewable raw materials in the MicorPor® Plus vacuum cleaner bags will be increased from 40% to 45-65%*.

2020
The Swirl® vacuum cleaner bag search has been expanded to include a scan function. With your smartphone or tablet, you can now easily find the right Swirl® bag by scanning the vacuum cleaner nameplate.
2021
Swirl® is developing the Swirl® Cleaning Plan skill for Amazon's Alexa. It can be used to create individual cleaning schedules in order to divide cleaning fairly between families, shared flats and other multi-person households. The skill also supports singles in housekeeping. Just say "Alexa, start Swirl® Cleaning Plan"!
2021
A significant milestone for Swirl®: the introduction of garbage bags made of 80% recycled plastic. With this step, we are sending a strong signal for sustainability and resource conservation.
2022
Launch of the sustainability initiative "Vishuudh - Fair Recycled Plastic": The Melitta Group's Fair Recycled Plastic initiative recycles up to 2,000 tons of plastic waste annually in Bangalore, India. These are used to make Swirl® garbage bags. The project improves the living conditions of waste pickers and reinvests profits in non-profit organizations.
2022
Swirl® launches EcoPor® vacuum cleaner bags, which, depending on the bag type, are made of 45-65% recycled material - with 100% performance! They replace the MicroPor® and MicroPor® Plus vacuum cleaner bag range.
2023
Swirl® garbage bags are now made of 100% recycled plastic*. The new range replaces the old garbage bag range with 80% recycled content, which was already launched in 2021.
