Organic waste accounts for about one third of all household waste. Those who collect it separately and put it in the organic waste bin or on their own compost pile reduce the volume of waste and help the environment. It is important that only biodegradable waste and waste bags are added to the organic waste. Vegetables, fruit and salad scraps, coffee grounds, tea filters and garden waste are compostable. Leftover food, cigarette stubs, pet litter and hygiene items do not belong in the organic waste.
Organic waste in plastic bags is not compostable. Those who do not wish to forgo hygiene and cleanliness in the organic waste bin should use special organic bags made from paper or organic corn starch-based film (from Swirl). The waste bag made from eco-film is heat-resistant to 50°C. Warmer leftovers should be cooled before placing in the bag, otherwise the film will melt due to its natural components.
